‘METHODE TRADITIONELLE’ SPARKING FROM GERMANY – EXCITINGLY DIFFERENT!

Wine connoisseurs know that Germany produces some of the very best and most outstanding wines in the world, which is why you’ll find five of the finest independent German producers showing their Sekt wines at the 2018 Glass of Bubbly International Champagne & Sparkling Wine Trade / Press Tasting and Summit: Le Meridien Piccadilly, London, 30th April 2018.

Come and taste – and see for yourself:

WEINGUT KÜNSTLER, RHEINGAU

2009 Künstler Chardonnay Brut Sekt

This sparkling wine, made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes, shows an intense ‘biscuity’ nose and flavour, due to its 7 years maturation on its ‘lees’ and the wine underwent riddling (what the champagne houses in France call ‘remuage’) after bottling.

WEINGUT STIGLER, BADEN

2011 Stigler Blanc de Blancs Brut Sekt

This elegant and creamy sparkling wine, made from 100% Chardonnay grapes, with a ‘biscuity’ flavour combined with mineral notes and a very fine mousse, is the result of being left for over 5 years on its ‘lees’ before being released for sale, and typical of what can only be found in a serious bottle of sparkling wine.

WEINGUT HUBERTUSHOF, TRITTENHEIM, MOSEL

2016 Hubertus Clüsserath Riesling Sekt, bottle fermented, hand-riddled

This fine sparking Riesling, sourced from the estate’s vineyards in the ‘Middle Mosel’, stands very much on its own merits, the result of meticulous work in the field, hand-selection of the grapes followed by gentle handling, using only the juice from the first pressing, careful processing in the cellar, and long ageing on the yeast.

WEINGUT WÜRTZBERG, SERRIG, SAAR

2016 Weingut Würtzberg Riesling Sekt

This elegant sparkling Sekt is made exclusively from Riesling grapes grown on the steep slopes from the estate’s wholly-owned vineyard, the Serriger Würtzberg.  The slate-rich Würtzberg soil gives the wine a fine minerality and extraordinary fruitiness, with citric aromas and flavours of white peach.

SEKT UND WEINMANUFAKTUR STENGEL, WÜRTTEMBERG

2015 Stengel Riesling Brut Sekt

This Riesling, one of the most famous German grape varieties, lives up to its reputation. Bright and beautiful with fresh fruit and citrus flavours and wonderfully balanced acidity make this Stengel sparkling Riesling, made with grapes harvested by hand and using the traditional method (méthode champenoise), something special.

Stengel Cuvée ‘MY’ – First Edition – Rosé Sekt

The grapes for this wine were harvested by hand to make a delicious sparkling wine with a lovely floral nose and a palate of strawberry,
raspberry – perhaps even, banana. This wine won the accolade of best German traditional method sparkling wine in 2013.

Stengel Cuvée Zero Brut Nature Sekt

Created for people who enjoy really dry sparkling wines. Made from a blend of several exquisite wines this is a wine with great balance and a firm structure, with lovely lemon and lime fruit flavours together with spice notes of marjoram and pepper.

Stengel Cuvée Anima Brut Sekt

Created from the 3 classic Champagne grape varieties and made from equal quantities of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. The wine was made from 100% first pressing of whole grapes, followed by 3 years ‘sure lie’, which results in a classy, top notch sparkling wine with a fine mousse.
