Weingut Stigler Ihringen Winklerberg ‘Pagode’ Weissburgunder VDP.Grosse Lage

A fine and elegant white Burgundy-style wine with good mineral structure, balanced acidity and a long finish.

Baden is the land of the ‘Vier Burgunder’ with Weiβburgunder (Pinot Blanc) at its very best. The renowned volcanic soils of the Winklerberg ‘Pagode’ vineyard are found towards the top of the best side of the hillside called the Kaiserstuhl (Emperor’s chair). The Pagode site takes its name from the Pagoda-like building which houses the water supply for irrigation in this area. Irrigation in this area is unique to Germany and is used because of its particularly hot micro-climate.

The versatility of Weiβburgunder means it goes well with many local and international dishes – starters or main courses alike.

Try this wine with simple dishes such as fish, white meats, poultry, and egg-based dishes – omelettes, eggs benedict and all sorts of quiche and savoury tarts (like onion tart from neighbouring Alsace), as well as soft cheeses. As with many of these versatile styles, Asian and Thai food are perfect partners.
