Weingut Stigler Ihringer Winklerberg Silvaner VDP.Erste Lage

The Silvaner grape is very diverse in terms of its taste profile: in Stigler’s south-facing Ihringer Winklerberg vineyard the volcanic soils give this wine firmness and body with delicious fruit flavours of pear and lychee, balanced by minerality.

This wine was fermented in stainless steel and subsequently stored in large wooden casks before bottling, giving it a creamy finish.

Recent studies have revealed that Silvaner is a cross between Traminer, one of the oldest known grape varieties, and Ősterreichisch Weiβ (closely related to Austria’s Grüner Veltliner).

This Silvaner goes well with freshwater fish, as well as shellfish.

It’s also an ideal partner for rustic seasonal country food, quiches and salads.

It matches beautifully with chicken and creamy sauces and it’s a perfect partner for asparagus – a favourite in Germany, especially during ‘Spargel Woche’ (Asparagus Week) during late May and early June, traditionally served with new potatoes, ham (Schinken) and a hollandaise sauce.
