Weingut Würtzberg Pinot Blanc ‘R’

The ‘R’ in the name stands for ‘Reserve’, in this case the special selection of only the best grapes from the estate’s two wholly-owned Große Lage vineyards, the Serriger Herrenberg and Serriger Würtzberg, both found in spectacular locations in the Saar valley.

The Pinot Blanc vines used to make this wine form part of the oldest vineyard in the Saar valley. The thin, rocky slate soil, an unusual soil type in which to grow Pinot Blanc, gives this wine a truly distinctive taste. Added to which, its spontaneous fermentation in large wooden barrels adds to its special character.

This is a wine with a fresh nose of white peach and dried herbs and a fruity palate of apple blossom, lemon, pineapple and pink grapefruit, with a hint of vanilla, together with a hint of oak and a creamy finish

This Pinot Blanc ‘R’ goes perfectly with grilled swordfish or tuna. Try with a lemon-basil butter sauce. It also works well with other fish and shellfish, especially scallops and mussels. It’s also a good fit for chicken.
