The grapes for this classic Saar Riesling Spätlese were harvested in the wholly-owned Serriger Würtzberg Große Lage vineyard, which is considered to be one of the most spectacular sites in the Saar valley.
This Würtzberg Spätlese was fermented spontaneously in stainless steel tanks. Afterwards the wine was left ‘sur lie’, with the finished wine left to sit on the yeast lees for a more intense extraction of flavours, which has resulted in a wonderfully complex wine.
The nose is of fresh lime with a hint of grapefruit, together with a touch of herby spiciness and is a very typical example of the wines produced by the Würtzberg estate.
“This wine is strongly marked by long contact with the lees. It throws off that cloak rather quickly revealing a firm core and a long, almost electric finish.” (James Suckling; 91 points)
